You can activate the Copy To/Move To actions in the settings of dolphin.

I do not know if it is the "Places" sidebar you are talking about, but the sidebar still does exist in KDE 4. In fact the only difference between my KDE 3 Konqueror sidebar & the KDE 4 Konqueror sidebar was that KDE 4 was missing the "System" and "Amarok" sidebar tabs. Unless you were referring to the "System" tab, the feature you want is still there ( it is just hidden :-) )

Why use Dolphin? Because in KDE4 Konqueror is just the pits for file management, I know at some point it will improve but it's just nothing like Konq in 3.5.x so I'm forcing myself to use Dolphin and though it's not all I want (at least compared to Konqueror) it's stable and fully functional AND the folder filter exists and works!.
