Things have changed.

Fri Jul 02, 2010 10:37 am
Hi,

Things have changed.

If I go to 'new post>ask a question' I seem to be limited to about 10 applications there seems to be no mechanism to ask a question on KDE. Am I being stupid and missing something?

Just in case someone is prepared/able to answer it here. How can I stop updates being done automatically? I want to have review and install back.

The applications list is not yet reflecting any possible KDE application. Feel free to suggest what is missing. General KDE questions are rare.

For your question, that is a distribution specific question, can you tell us which distribution you are using?

Hi,

Thanks for reply.

I use Kubuntu. I posted on that forum too but no response yet.

I feel there should be an 'Ask a Question' category something like 'General' or 'Desktop'

Best wishes,
Howard

Open KPackageKit, Configure the software sources, Updates and set to only notify about new updates.

Thanks for reply.

It is set that way.

I have:-
Kubuntu Updates
'Important Security updates' and 'Recommended updates' ticked
Automatic Updates
'Check foe updates' ticked
'Only notify about available updates' dotted

But recently some have the notifier icon popups has been saying something like update installed automatically.

My concern is that some applications eg ffmpeg I have configured and compiled outside the repository system and I do not want them messed about without my sayso.

Next time, if I'm here I'll have to take note of what is actually happening.

I have noticed the same, and it is a confirmed bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/586497

Seems like the problem has already been patched and should be going out through updates

Thanks Oceanwatcher,

I have now read thro' the bug report and await the update.

I wonder if it will go automatically or allow review ;)

It will make it into updates, but I think it needs more testing and comments before it can make it out of -proposed

This comment asks for this, but the wiki page on enabling the -proposed does not have Kubuntu specific instructions. Look here for that

The updates I got just now did allow 'review and install' BUT did NOT ask for sudo authentication!

had you recently used sudo/kdesudo shortly before doing this? Sudo does have a short 'window' before you need to enter your password again. If not, please add your results to the bug report.

It's possible, can't remember now. I'll keep an eye on it.
