That's why this thread is a split off from the original and well I think win7 is very elegant. I have been using it for a week and love the new look, menu, panel and how unobtrusive it is (eg in kde4.5 whenever I do an x number of file ops, I get an x number of notifications waiting for me in the panel in windows it's just one dialogue and it disappears when the operations have finished.

Any in general I think kde should really try to reduce animations/effects/tooltips/popus and dialogues because atm there is just too much, it's better in 4.5 but still I have the feeling my desktop is "alive"

See, and there we are again. I am sure you are now stalked by Mac Fans just because they think it is the most elegant of anything existant. ;)
But all that is just purely personal taste.
And you have maybe many people agreeing about animations being too much or something like that. But on the opposite there will be people saying it is nice, elegant (there it is again) and beautiful.
But that just doesn't hit what the iniciative "Elegance" is supposed to do. It is about a way of doing/improving things, not about the look or any personal taste, pretty much like in the link of the blog i gave earlier.

Excellent idea aapgorilla - and sorry for being OT, but where or how do I unsubscribe from this thread?

As soon as one writes a reply there is the option of notification, but what if one doesn't even want to reply?

@toad:

Goto User CP, there is the option to manage subscriptions.
