I hope i posted in correct place.
I have a question regarding KDE SC's usage in commercial product. For example: I want to sell a device which will use Plasma Netbook and other KDE technologies. So my questions are: - is this permissible? - what are my obligations to KDE? Thanks Reza |

afaik KDE is subject to the GPL3 - you can therefore take it and do with it what you like as long as you don't try to appropriate it and sell it as yours. For further info check http://gplv3.fsf.org/
Incorporating it into a product is a fantastic way of increasing its acceptance and distribution and I am sure you will be encouraged all along the way from this corner at least ![]() As for obligations - I am sure that good code or money or whatever you have to give back are all very much appreciated... All the best in your endeavour!

The source code that makes up KDE SC follows the KDE Licensing Policy - http://techbase.kde.org/Policies/Licensing_Policy
As such, the code is GPLv2 or LGPLV2.1 I believe. If you have an queries, you may wish to contact the Developers mailing lists

If you are working for a company and want a more formal relationship/advice, it might be best to contact the board of the KDE e.V. (basically the foundation representing KDE in legal matters, holder of trademarks and so on).

Thanks for all replies.
Emailing KDE board seems a good idea. |
