Hello to all. I would like to know what is the Battery Power Usage, Memory usage and CPU usage for KDE 4.5.3 right now. The last test i saw was from Phoronix at http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=a ... tals&num=1 which is dated on March 2010 (Which is KDE 4.4.x still)
As i have read there has been several levels of improvement over in the 4.5.x branch. Is there any benchmark made already that can show this and compare to latest Gnome and Xfce ones. Specially this 3 parts. The reason is i will be doing a post and will be talking in the next month about why use KDE and a student ask about the usage. So i said to come to the talk and i would show him all the benefits it has.

Well , is not so hard to make that kind of raw data, you can make it by your self.
The top, ps and ksysguard commands are your best friends. But i can tell that kde 4.5.3 is fast and it has the best performance of the kde 4.x series. |

Let me make the question a little "easier" to understand.
Is there any benchmark made already that can show this and compare to latest Gnome and Xfce ones. The tipical "you can do it youself using X stuff" are not needed. Is not that i have not tried already the question is and the reason why i wrote the post is for help looking for an already made and very well tested benchmark not the "do it youself" tipical answer. Not being angry here, just clearing and making the point of my post. Like i said earlier, already saw several ones using 4.2, 4.3, 4.4. But no 4.5.x yet and since a lot of work was put up to this 4.5.x version i wanted to know THAT PRECISE DETAIL. ![]()

asnwer 1: Once again, "Do it your self" is the best answer that you can get, if you are going to sdo a talk, then you must do it by your self, so you don't have to relies on external sources, to just trust them . I meant, is pretty easy to do.
I personally don't trust on benchmarks that i can't remake. But i do benchmark. by my self , compilers, file systems, drivers, etc. If you are going to post about something and then i ask u: where do you get that data and how was made?,and then you say to me that you picked it up from wikipedia, well that's a deal breaker for me. There's a lot of biased and tweaked benchmarks out there that, I can not just give it a blind trust I know that this is not what you want to hear, but i don't care, because this kind of typical answer that people don't like to hear, is what people typically should do. answer 2: No, there is not any kde 4.5.3 benchmarks out there, so don't waste your time asking for it |

No offense, but installing and re-installing linux ( All distribution ) it's very easy and fast. Put to your flash drive install it. You don't like it? Uninstall it and try other distribution / Stable version of KDE. Installation progress take's only 5-10minutes using my GENERIC notebook. You don't want to harm your system but want to give it a test?? Choos LIVE CD option. Try it first, Use you USB Stick it can at least make you see how KDE 4.5.3 works and what's the different. Don't get blind by reading a raw statistic things... You lazy to try? so just leave it and stick on ur version. But my opinion 4.5.x is faster than 4.4.x don't have to give you any screenshot. We all know that KDE eat quite much resource. Prepare at least 2GiG RAM so you can use any latest ver of KDE. Regards, |

Thank you ngativ for the answers. True that some benchmarks are "made for specific task" which do not provide how to replicate or say the full truth about something.
