Hi

It seems like some of the background art from kde is being use for product photos here.

Ironic, since Sony laptops seem to have fairly poor Linux support.

I'm not particularly sure what to do about this, but I thought it was a good idea to let you know.

Maybe it's not Sony, but just the reseller that paste that image on the screen area. Some other websites use the same image, others do not. Is the image present on Sony website?

EDIT: license is LGPLv3 (see /usr/share/wallpapers/Air/metadata.desktop). I don't know what that means for images though.

I can't find any direct evidence sony is distributing the wallpaper, although a search for that model number does turn up a lot of websites using the air background.

From my pov, putting images (even thumbnailed and put on a laptop) is distribution.

What is disturbing is that they advertise Windows 7 with that, which is quite over the top IMHO. Also, they put a Vaio logo on the screen as if it were part of the screen image, which is actually a disrespect of the license and copyright. They might not know what the GPL means and think this image is public domain, which it is not. The clearly need to either label this image correctly or take it away, the current state suggest it is part of Windows 7 and/or Vaio.

I suggest getting in touch with the author of the image, as the copyright belongs to him and it is up to him to take appropriate measures.

FWIW: I checked the Sony website, they don't use the wallpaper, so this is apparently the reseller who produce two additional images. And it might well be that one produced two additional images and others copied those over. That model doesn't have these views on the Sony website.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...
