Could someone please tell me how to DISABLE this very cranky piece of software.
I don't need or want it on the machine I am using and it is absorbing too much of my valuable time and causes my system to lock up when I am in the GUI. I may have to return to the command line if I cannot do something soon. None of the help (kindly) proffered has been of any use whatever. Same problem no matter what advice I implement. All I wish is to disable it PERMANENTLY> D ![]() |

First I doubt it is locking up your system. In terms of disabling it, you need to avoid using applications which use Akonadi, as it only starts if it's services are requested. What problem are you having with it?

It only does this activity when I try to use the GUI as root. Since I rarely use the GUI the problem is solved - thanks for your input.

remember the plasma clocks use Akonadi for their calendar functionality, so the clock will start it.

It can be disabled via hidden config option in 4.6 and from the GUI in 4.7, though.

that I saw but not obvious that it disables the Akonadi plasma clock interaction, events in this case would be events entered into kdepim? As I don't have/use kdepim just trying to get educated.
thanks, |

That's correct, events set in the default Akonadi calendar resource, whatever that would be.

I don't doubt it could at least slow down his system. After all it uses a mysqld process in the background (per user) that can take up 30-60M running idle. I wish there was a way to turn it off and still send and receive mail through kmail. I have moved too thunderbird from Kmail just for this reason. It's dumb to force a resource hog db on desktop users just to organize contacts. If you just use IMAP then look at a program called Trojita. It's decent and doesn't use Akonadi. It's pretty much impossible now to make a light weight distribution using KDE without major hacking. Thanks KDE team for being bloated and forcing your bloat on me.

In my country, when we laughing about someone we call him "akonadi developer".

I don't find this particularly funny or ironic.

Good. Because this, did not have to be funny or ironic, but informative. Funny is this - http://kate-editor.org/2011/07/10/kde-4 ... arcraft-2/ Maybe "akonadi developers" should write games, and not piece of desktop enviroment?
And where is this "godmode" hidden? |

Read above in the thread for how to disable it. And still, I do not like such statements towards the Akonadi developers. Remember the first line of the Code of Conduct: "Be respectful".
