for me on these computer suse didn't work ...so i started with ubuntu... then i got kubuntu suse , my point of view , it's slow... (tried years ago dunno now)

i tried fedora... and wtf = not stable freeze and so on...

i will prefer debian to kubuntu ... but debian get always bad repository \unstable(sid) || old ultra old packages

then kubuntu has its philosophy and .. suse ,i believed, was too much bind to novel and so..to microsoft that i hate with my soul.

On the side of open source ,free stuff, gnu philosophy , i will prefer gnewsense.. gnewsense , when i tried , didn't get kde packages so... i didn't use it

but there is something that i think it's true..On kubuntu many times you got bad stuff, expecially on external repo.. especially i mean upgrading system

i support the community on #kubuntu channel and a lots of times i see people that upgrade kde with ppa repo kubuntu-beta backports ... and they get problems .. well those repository are not officially supported ...

the most of times creating a new user or reinstalling every packages or deleting some configuration files, solves the problem but this is not a good way..

i don't like metapackages like:

sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop kubuntu-default-settings

but you can install

sudo apt-get install kde-standard

and i don't like all the stuff i have to do to custom my linux box

aka this

But to mee kubuntu is a good choice, FOR ME , because a lots of people are using ubuntu therefore there is a lots of people on hardware support , forum etc and so hardware problems can be solved faster.

said that... i am on kubuntu since 3 years and with a brain you can solve problems on irc or on forums.

I can't get SUSE to boot on my machine either. I haven't had too many problems with the more recnent versions of Kubuntu but I've recently started using Pardus. It's an awesome KDE distro that gives KDE lots of love. It's very polished and professional looking. It's rock solid stable despite being a semi-rolling release. The only drawback is the small repos but that should change as the distro grows. The government is also increasing it's staff from 20 to 50 this year.
