I'm starting a series of blog posts that tries to show the differences between the KDE 4.5 and 4.6 versions. I initially wanted to create one big review but after putting together an outline it seems best to break it up some. Here's the link to the first post where I go over the changes I noticed in Dolphin and Notifications.
http://bsmith1012.blogspot.com/2011/01/changes-in-kde-46-dolphin-and.html Please let me know if there's anything I missed. And Ill post in this thread again when I finish the next blog post. I dont really know what else to do with these blogs, but I figured some of you might be interested. |

OK, here's part 2 where I show the changes in window tiling and the power management settings.
http://bsmith1012.blogspot.com/2011/01/ ... iling.html I'm going to try to write one a day until Im finished. I probably have 2 or 3 more blog posts to write before Im done. |

WOW, really cool idea. I even learned some new stuff, didn't know about the new tiling. Now that I know it's impossible not to use
![]() not sure if this is the right place to post feedback but still: - Some before/after screenshots would be very helpful in some occasions. Doesn't have to be big. ex: context menu before and after (only menu, no other parts of the window) - The use of multiple backgrounds is great, not sure if it's intentional ![]() - And one small little nitpick: in the filter screenshot the filter items are somewhat hard to read Looking forward to the other items! |

@montfras: getting some before and after shots is a good idea, thanks. No I didnt use different backgrounds intentionally lol. The black background was my main, and when i opened up a new blank activity to take some screenshots I used the blue default one. and have you clicked on the image for the bigger view of the filter screenshot? i know the images aren't the best quality because I used showfoto to convert them to jpg and it was set to 75% quality. I changed it to 90% now so it shouldn't be as bad anymore.
Anyways, here's the newest one where I look at the speed improvements, icon changes, and new image sharing in gwenview and ksnapshot. http://bsmith1012.blogspot.com/2011/01/ ... image.html |

The quality is fine ![]() What I meant is that the items are grayed out on the screenshot, not a big issue actually. Just me being difficult. Have you thought about getting these blog posts on planet kde? Or on userbase as a 'changes from 4.5 to 4.6' entry? Very nice reviews, keep it up! |

Sorry it took an extra couple days guys. I got busy, but here's the changes in Activities for KDE 4.6 and after this one I have one more blog post and then I'll be finished.
http://bsmith1012.blogspot.com/2011/02/ ... ities.html @Raftysworld: Thanks! @montfras: I messed around with it and didn't ever see the filter panel not grayed out :/ I dont know what the deal is there. Since Im not a KDE contributor yet, Ive only filed bugs at this point, I cant syndicate my blog to planetkde. |

There's been some interesting changes with the new application dockers, grouping panel, and add widgets scrolling. Here's a new blog post where I go over the changes made from kde 4.5 to kde 4.6

Im sorry to keep posting, but I have this one last final blog post to finish off the series of changes in KDE 4.6 for those who are interested. I go over the changes in the new oxygen-gtk theme and also show the new lock/unlock safeguards added to the desktop settings and activities configurations.
http://bsmith1012.blogspot.com/2011/02/ ... rting.html Thanks again guys, Ive really enjoyed writing about my experience with KDE, and will hopefully be able to continue with some new blog posts about other things in the future. |

thanks! Im currently working on a couple of my KDE Ideas posts as well as a few reviews. Out of my reviews, I probably first will want to check out Opensuse 11.4 KDE and then afterwards do a comparison of several of the most popular KDE distributions. Like Debian/Fedora/Opensuse/Kubuntu and maybe Arch and Pardus too but Im not sure yet. If you're interested in that, please subscribe bc im not going to keep posting here and advertising every blog that i post. Thanks for the support! |
