I apologize for not replying to my own thread asking for help sooner but here i am now. if there is no /etc/sysconfig/ directory is it possible these network scripts can be found elsewhere. Also, i came across another problem, my KDE installation is on my laptop. I've been connecting to my network via an ethernet cable until sunday evening. I turned on the wireless on my laptop, and created a wireless connection (wlan0) under KNetwork Manager. Everything worked wonderfully. Then i rebooted my laptop, and i got a screen informing me that KNetwork Manager closed un-expectedly. It's KDE Crash Handler screen. I thought i should come here first for help before submitting a bug report only to find out later that this is an easy fix. I would like to attach a screen shot of the window so i don't have to copy down the information but i don't see how to attach a picture. I searched the FAQ and it told me that i can either link to a pic on the web or i can upload a picture but i don't see anywhere on my screen to upload a picture...i feel like such an amateur...

I'm assuming that creating my wireless connection is the cause of the KNetwork Manager crash since it's the only thing I've done to my laptop since thursday of last week.

. I wrote this tutorial to use static ip with knetworkmanager automatically. viewtopic.php?f=18&t=94745 Static IP KNetworkManager - System Connection “Auto eth0" with nm-connection-editor I also had trouble with the images hosted. So I put this tutorial in PDF. System Connection: established before the user log into the system. Available to all users. User Connection: established after the user log into the system. In this tutorial will be used: - OpenSuse 11.4-x86_64 - KDE: 4.6.00 (4.6.0) "release 6" - KNetworkManager: v0.9 - NetworkManager: 0.8.2-15.20.1 - NetworkManager-gnome: 0.8.2-8.1 Will be shown two methods (1-System Connection and 2-User Connection) to create a connection with static IP and that works automatically with Knetworkmanager. |

Hi!!I just need to set a static IP. Ideally, I would like to know the following:1. How do I give my computer a static IP (set the IP, subnet mask, gateway and DNSs) using the command line or other tools.
2. How do I fix my GUI issue? Thanks ![]() |

You can set a static IP address in the Network Management settings.
KDE Sysadmin
