As many of you should already know, almost every computer manufacturer is doing what apple did: Making, marketing and selling a iPad like tablet.

I know that the kde team have a desktop and netbook interface, and right now is trying to build a mobile phone kde interface. But i don't see anyone talking about a future table interface.

Do you think that kde should have a tablet UI? i do!

The mobile plasma interface (technically called the MID interface) is being designed so it will work on any touch-based device, including smartphones, MIDs, and tablets. There is also work making sure the rest of KDE will work well in touch-based devices. For instance people are current reworking kde-games so they will work well with touch interfaces.

see "KWin Embraces New Platforms with OpenGL ES 2.0 Support" http://dot.kde.org/2011/02/18/kwin-embr ... 20-support as to how plasma is being ported to mobile devices

Clearly with today's release of the iPad 2 Apple continues to dominate the market.

I think KDE is right where it needs to be. It seems that when KDE started doing the netbook interface it was thinking not just about netbooks but also touch devices (which were on the horizon at that time). It may seem like KDE's touch support is moving kind of slowly, but after all it is just one facet of the whole KDE ecosystem.

As for the Apple iPad domination, I think we're seeing what happened after they released the iPhone - they owned the market for a while, but eventually competition came about and now the smartphone ground is pretty even. In the tablet market, they own the market but competing products are springing up (quicker than the iPhone competitors because there are already viable products that can be easily adapted to the new form factor) and in the next year or so the tablet ground will be pretty even.

Of course the problem is that Apple is the leader and everyone else is playing catch-up, and when they do Apple just turns around and releases a new product which creates a new market. At least there products are pretty good.
