update kde on opensuse

Fri Apr 15, 2011 6:21 pm
Hello,

I'm on opensuse 11.4 with kde 4.6.0 is the stable version that brings the default distro is it really recommended to upgrade to kde 4.6.2? I say this because sometimes the upgrade version of kde you can lose stability as appropriate.

Thanks.

it's not a major update but because it and 4.6.1 fix various bugs and improves stability it's recommended

This update is the second in a series of monthly stabilization updates to the 4.6 series. 4.6.2 brings many bugfixes and translation updates on top of the latest edition in the 4.6 series and is a recommended update for everyone running 4.6.1 or earlier versions. As the release only contains bugfixes and translation updates, it will be a safe and pleasant update for everyone. KDE's software is already translated into more than 55 languages, with more to come

If you want continuous updates on openSUSE 11.4, you should consider Tumbleweed. openSUSE does not normally upgrade KDE during the life of a version though it may provide upgrades of some programs.

I don't think anyone has as many versions of KDE available in it's repositories as openSuse does http://en.opensuse.org/KDE_repositories

You should avoid Tumbleweed unless you know what your are doing and what you are getting yourself into, it is not for noobies http://en.opensuse.org/Tumbleweed
