Hi All,
I am using Kubuntu 11.4 When I installed I gave full hard disk space for Linux. But Now I want to try out a new OS along with Linux for sometime due to certain reasons. When I tried to install it. It is saying that no disk space is available for it. Now I want to change the existing partitioning of Linux. I went into KDE Partition Manager. I am unable to change the existing partition for Linux. Can someone please guide me ASAP? ![]() |

if you just want to try a new distro consider VirtualBox which allows you to run different os's within your current one (there's tutorials all thru the web). This will be this least disruptive way to test new distros. Of course it helps if you have a fair amount of ram.
You don't give much info about your current partitioning but if "gave full hard disk space for Linux" means you have only have one partition on the hd and that's used by Kubuntu then you can't shrink a mounted partition and you can't unmount it because that's what's running so you'll need to run a livecd at boot and use the partition manager available on it. You can use the Kububtu livecd (I'm assuming it has partition management) or Parted Magic which is a small livecd designed for the purpose. Warning shrinking a partition is usually safe but stuff happens so save all you important docs somewhere else Update: just an fyi when installing Linux you want 3 partitions (minimally) root (/), swap and home (/home) here's an explaination why http://www.control-escape.com/linux/lx-partition.html as to partition size I would suggest 15gb to 20gb for root (/) and 1x to 2x ram for swap (Google they'll be other recommendations) |
