and all become clear

Sun Oct 26, 2008 3:19 pm
i just upgraded to kde4.1.71 ( kde 4.2 alpha1), and damn man, it suddenly become clear to me what plasma is meant to be, i was sceptical as many of you, but now activities, cashiew are so natural, so intuitive, plasma Dev are a bunch of genius, and only the sky is the limit now, i can't even imagine the awesomeness of plasma when activity will be aware of virtual desktop.
just install activity bar, and welcome to the next linux desktop.

ps: just want to share my excitement, and thanks for openSUSE, the build service just rock.

Oh, great, now you're tempting me to upgrade again...

In all seriousness, though, it's good to hear that KDE 4.2 is making progress. Maybe you could post a few screenshots for us?

actually my desktop is a little boring, i have only two activities, work and fun, work is a folderview activity ( ala kde3.5) and fun is just the default desktop with only useless eye candy applets ( the best one is Chuck Norris facts, courtesy of apple ;)

in kde4.1 it is a pain in the a.. to switch between activity, frankly zoom out and in, is not the best paradigm in computer history, but now in kde4.2 trunk you can simply use the activity bar applet.

now what is really exciting is one activity per virtual desktop, thus using pager to change activity,( unfortunately it is not implemented yet, i just asked plasma channel, they told me it is planned but they are not sure if they can add it in time before kde4.2, feature freeze) couple that with option to show only applications from the current desktop in the task applet, and you get each virtual desktop with specific app, different wallpapers and different activity.

i have made two screenshots, the upper panel is autohide,

and sorry for the quality, i have very slow net connection, can't upload better then that.
