rekonq ?

Tue Sep 06, 2011 9:07 pm
So what are the thoughts in the forum about rekonq ?

It seems great - works better than konqueror in my experience and imho.

It is now the default web browser in Kubuntu 11.04 (since 10.10), and so maybe we'll have to wait for Fedora 17
since the F16 beta shows no signs of it (Fedora 16 KDE does yum install the rekonq 0.7 version though).

It sucks for stability. At least when Flash in Konqueror crashes the whole browser doesn't go down, unlike reKonq >>

Konqueror doesnt render email accounts very well for me, it is an unrecognized browser for many email providers I think.
rekonq has never been a problem - and actually I like how rekonq treats links with a new tab.
With Fedora KDE at least, a
Code: Select all
 yum install rekonq
and the rekonq web browser gets installed and is there in all your KDE menus.

I would wonder why crashes are occurring in either Konqueror or rekonq ...
KDE and the plasma workspace are a glutton on resources no doubt.

That's because Konqueror uses KHTML by default and rekonq the more evolved WebKit.

Thanks . . . good to know -

some searching showed that Google Chrome is also WebKit based, and may be even better - certainly is more popular I guess.

I'm pretty happy with rekonq though . . . wish it was my default in Fedora 17 KDE, but that is not really much of a big deal for now.

I'm trying to understand and "like" Rekonq as a browser...but can't get there..it says you have limited customization so the focus is on the webpage...OK...I don't quite get how that works....I love the KDE desktop and "ALL" the freedom and customization it offers and thought that it's browsers would naturally follow in that vein, but alas Rekonq has very limited choices not to mention pretty severe rendering issues with some webpages...I'm not a code guy or script writer so addons by people who are far smarter than me is a must...I am wondering/hoping that the developers will add some customization options in the future....I have to install Firefox in my favorite distro...Manjaro KDE simply because Rekonq is somewhat klunky and not nearly as fast or customizable...at least for a noob like me...again..I very much want to like/use Rekonq...it just seems half developed at this point.
