As stated, KDE needs to really improve it's usability and stability. Thus far I've had the KDE plasma desktop crash on me twice, whilst I was doing a backup from my external HDD, GNOME2 never did this, and this is just pitiful for KDE a product as old as this not being able to not just die.
The next thing is copying/moving files. I have no idea who's idea it was to not think that "drag and drop" is something that everyone wants to do. Whoever you are, leave the project, never come back, seriously just go away. It's not the 80s, drag and drop is commonplace. When trying to move a file I then get a prompt that says "Link here, Copy here." Well I don't know, I'm dragging the file and copying it to another location, like my desktop, so I think I might want to copy it there. This also applies to adding desktop icons. Doing so requires me to say that I actually want to have them there. And whenever they run, I get the prompt asking me if, I really want to have a program that I've put on my desktop to run. Single click to open/execute files? NO OTHER DESKTOP ENVIROMENT DOES THIS! None! I don't know why you continue on the "screw basic paradigms" but it seems like it's a common theme inside of the KDE camp. Double click to open/execute is what everyone's used to. It should be set to that as default. Also when it comes to logging into my wireless network, by default, when it turns on, it should automaticallly connect. This is basic usability, it has the password, there's no reason it shouldn't do so. The windows should be able to rearranged, and I don't know why that's not possible. I should be able to move them around so hat they're in a position that I choose. changing between workspaces should be some sort of semi-common keycommand, alt+arrow, crtl+alt+arrow, ctrl+shift+arrow. The Dolphin windows, when you click the property, they should not be tied to the window itself, they should be seperate so that you're not forced to mess with them when you're trying to see what they're doing. It should be independent of them so that comparisons of the properties are easier when viewing two separate folders. Now then, with that stated. KDE does do somethings _really_ really well. The first one is file transfers, whenever I transfer a file, I like how it's down in that little area. And also the "pause", option I've not used it yet, but I imagine that it'll let you clean up some files incase you run out of room. That's really awesome. I'm glad that you guys did that. It's kickass. Next up is the clipboard, I love how it has a series of things for me to chose from on my clipboard which is really making me happy. Also, I love the external drive area, I have the things right there and I can just use it. it's awesome to make it that simple. I also like how they're just listed inside of dolphin so that I can easily mount/safely remove them. It also looks really nice and has a nice set of "widgets" that come with it, this makes it easy to readd some things that I did have on GNOME with minimal effort. I've yet to use the git plugin, but when I heard about it, it was a great decision that is realy nice. But overall there are a lot of little issues. I'm going to post in another thread trying to fix them, since the networking items in xfce are abysmal. |
