I'm a brand new kde user here. Just installed it a week ago or so. I've used linux in many forms since 2002 but always went with Gnome but since the change to gnome 3 I've since abandoned that boat and came here. Ok now I'm trying to figure out what the "activities" are and what the Photos Activity thing is on the top right of my desktop are. I do know that occasionally my screen will change and none of my applications will appear to be open because the panel is blank other than the icons and whatnot that are usually there.

I tried looking at the kde wiki but it's no help at all. That's sad. I expected to find a very full featured wiki and all I got was a tutorial on what KDE is.

If anybody can show me around and post links that might be useful to a new kde user that would be great!

See if these links help: viewtopic.php?f=67&t=93183

In short: activities is a way to organize your workspace depending on your computer activity, which can be everything from study or work to editing photos, playing games etc. It's similar to virtual desktop but with some additional features (see links).
