Hi everybody!

I'm using openSUSE 12.1.
Is there any way to get rid of the "great" feature from KDE 4.7 (I understood that this was added starting with KDE 4.6 - it didn't happen to me so far because my openSUSE 11.4, with KDE 4.6, was obtained from openSUSE 11.3 by updating) that allows a file transfer (e.g. from one partition to another) to be captured by the system notification?
I'm using Krusader and so far I'm pretty satisfied with it. But when I try to copy or move a file from one partition to another instead of the regular file transfer window inside Krusader, the file transfer is automatically captured by the system and shown only in the notification area. This thing is very annoying and COMPLETELY useless to me. I DIDN'T ask for and for sure I DON'T need this stupid behaviour of KDE.
How can I disable/ remove/ kill/ get rid of/ never ever hear of , you name it... this?

try right click on the notification icon in the system tray -> notification settings -> un-click "file transfers and other job"

Of course this was the first thing I tried. But this doesn't solve the problem. The only thing it does is to capture the file transfer silently without any notification whatsoever. Just in the background. You can see nothing during the file transfer. Blind.

I'm VERY disappointed of this forum!!! I thought I meet here some of the specialists who build KDE. But I was deeply wrong. Here are just a bunch of users, who don't know much about KDE. The simple question I asked remained unanswered, although is obvious that what I described here is not a bug, but a feature of KDE:

It's a shame that some questions remain unanswered, but unfortunately there isn't much we can do about it. Participation in the forums is voluntary for everyone.

Actually I'm pretty sure it's a bug - in earlier versions unticking that checkbox gave you the old transfer dialogs back. I helped someone on IRC with the same problem and apparently it worked for him after unchecking the option, logging out and logging in again, have you tried that?

Thank you for your kindly answer. Yes, now the issue is solved. Although I repeatedly unchecked the "File transfers and other jobs" box before, I never logged out after that. With your advice, I rebooted the system, with that box unchecked, and now the file transfer window inside Krusader is back again. Yes, this type of answer I was waiting for. Thank you VERY much!!!

To get onto the problem and off stupid attitudes I can reproduce the OP's experience. Here is what I tried:

1) normal file transfer in krusader, system notification took over
2) turned off file transfer in system notificaton, result no notification of copying progress/finish
3) checked krusader settings whether there was an option for notifications
4) stopped/restarted krusader - same result
5) stopped/restarted kdm - same result

Not sure where the fault in not handshaking properly lies but I'd check google and krusader.org first.

You're welcome, and thanks for marking the topic as solved. I hope you'll continue to enjoy the forums even after your initial disappointment. We have many friendly and knowledgeable users (including developers) here, but we can always do with more.

EDIT: By the way, I could still reproduce this in the development version (although it is slightly outdated). It would be great if you could file a report on https://bugs.kde.org/. I did a quick search and didn't find any similar reports but it's recommended that you double check that.

You were answered.
Just turn off the notification system from showing file transfers.
And almost all developers do this by their freetime. They like to do what they do, not to regulary scan forum to work as helpdesk, that is task of the community.

And it is a very good feature, and just by my opinion, being implemented wrong. (You can see my suggestion from brainstorm.php?mode=idea&i=91258&page=1#anchormain)

Central notification system is many ways better than having a every application to do it themselfs. Or having a pop-up window everytime.

Yes, it sounds like a good idea to have all messages at one place.

But using krusader I got a bit unpatient with this notifications fooling around in the edge or having to find my file transfer job in the lists of other notifications.

So it's good to have a choice.

Has smth changed after TS's happy end?
I mean, are there still present those old transfer windows?
After disabling notification and logging of and even rebooting i still have just silent behaviour in krusader. Should i do smth more e.g. checking some optins inside krusader etc?

If "File transfer and other jobs" is unchecked then restarting Plasma Desktop (or logging out and back in) should make it work.
Easiest way to check if Plasma is still possibly interfering is to temporarily close it to test. Using Konsole run:

You can run the following to start Plasma Desktop again:

If this makes the traditional file transfer notification windows appear, then I suspect you are facing a case of multiple notification applets in Plasma, possibly due to a damaged configuration.
