Hello, first post here, new kde user

K3b Version 2.0.2
KDE 4.8.5
dvd drive: ide-dvd DROM6216
intel core2 quad cpu Q8200
x86_64
opensuse 12.2

Problem:
Using K3b to rip cd's works fine.
Using K3b to rip DVD's doesn't:
Dialog box just says
Please select a medium:
Please insert a Video DVD medium

rpm -q libdvdcss2 k3b k3b-codecs w32codec-all
libdvdcss2-1.2.12-1.14.x86_64
k3b-2.0.2-15.86.x86_64
k3b-codecs-2.0.2-15.86.x86_64
w32codec-all-20110131-1.1.i586

I'm not pirating anything just archiving my personal library of DVDs

what else should I check or look for?

Does the system acknowledge the presence of the DVD at all (ie. does it allow you to open it with Dolphin)?
