GET CONFIGURATION length det failed

Sat Nov 16, 2013 1:01 am
Hello, the CD/DVD driver seems to be ok but I can't burn a data DVD. The steps I am performing are:

1. Put new and unuasble DVD-R in driver
2. Open K3b
3. Selects files I wish to burn
4. Click "Burn" button

After this, I get the error. The program does not record a single byte, it process the "project" for a while (tries to determine the size of the image) and splashes the error. the error message I get is in brazilian portuguese ("Não foi possível determinar o tamanho do arquivo de imagem resultante"). In english it would be like "Unable to determine the size of the resulting image file".

The ouptut below was shown in the terminal. It was a try I gave running k3b from the terminal to see what other messages I would see.

The system I am running is:

=> Centos 6.4
=> kernel 2.6.32-358.el6.x86_64
=> K3b version 1.0.5
=> Gnome 2.28.2

Thanks for any support you can give.

Hello,

yes. Tried brasero also and a similar error happens. In k3b tried other settings like but none of them helped:

=> set a temporary directory with plenty of space
=> set of output charset to 8859-1
=> set other rock ridge/joliet and extend file naming options

To record the backup I needed to do, had to manually create an iso image and then k3b was able to burn the content ok. The command issued:

genisoimage -o backup.20131116.iso -file-mode 0775 -input-charset iso8859-1 -iso-level 4 -J -log-file backup.20131116.log -path-list ...

Thanks for your support

Maybe you have a problem with wodim/cdrkit?
Try to use the real cdrecord and mkisofs instead.

You can get it from the multimedia:apps repo:
http://software.opensuse.org/package/cdrecord
http://software.opensuse.org/package/mkisofs

Hi, for my surprise I did not have this commands installed on the system. Downloaded the source from http://cdrecord.berlios.de/private/cdrecord.html to build on Centos. and now the commands are there but k3b still fails. Is there some extra configuration on k3b to ajust or this was supposed to be a replacement for it? Thanks.

try this https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=450739#c4
Now I try to burn DVD-RW. With k3b-1.0.4-5.fc8.x86_64.rpm I get error. When I
activate Manual buffer size and set it to 4MB, DVD is burn. I try to update to
the newest k3b and DVD is also well burn.
The easiest way to solve this problem is to update to the new k3b ;)

what version of K3b? try finding or compiling K3b 1.0.5 http://softlayer-dal.dl.sourceforge.net ... .5.tar.bz2

Hi, i am using version 1.0.5. After restarting the system, I tried to burn another backup set and this time k3b burned it ok. In the sequence, I tried another recording using a re-formated dvd-rw and it hanged at 50%. But just after, a second and third tries went ok using this same dvd-rw. Also creating iso images from the files/data I want to backup is running ok. Even Brasero recorded ok. Anyway, I will keep an eye on it to ensure the behavior normalizes. Thanks you all for your inputs.
