What's the matter with K3B?

Tue Apr 19, 2016 10:32 pm
"seems not to be a usable image"
google01103 wrote:that message seems to indicate a corrupted file (at least to K3b)

K3B used to work just fine. It has been upgraded so that ISO images get burned as a file within the CD (new default) and it fails to understand ISO images that can be mounted and burned with other software. So, per your suggestion in another topic, I am using bracero. ("arm"???) Works fine. But, ?Que paso'? (what happened to K3B?)

<snip>, I am using bracero. ("arm"???) <snip>)

you mean Brasero ?
"Arm" you mean like a Raspberry PI?
What distro?
Can you add the link to the original post as I don't recall it

As K3b is just a gui to command line apps it could be one of those causing the problem,

I rarely burn anything these days but I've never had an iso be within a file if I used "burn image"

When you burned your iso there should a log window opened can you post it.

When you're reading the Brasero iso can you run K3b in Konsole and does it display anything relevant

Googling:
k3b burn iso image "seems not to be a usable image"
led to topic 125016 and I spelled "brasero" as "bracero" because "brasero" has no connection to anything to me and bracero" does. (Spanish for a human arm. Sorry, my fault... ;)

but I've never had an iso be within a file if I used "burn image"
It used to burn an image file as an image by default. I upgraded to openSUSE 42.1 and it has a new (less useful) default. So, later, I did click "burn image" and it was then it came up with the "seems not to be a usable image" stuff. That is actually a bit surprising, given both that the image is just fine and that K3B should be basically "dd-ing" the data to the device. (i.e. no need for it to try to interpret.)

The remaining log info is useless. .kde4/share/apps/k3b/lastlog.log contains the log info from the iso-within-iso burn. It was the next one after that that said, "Nope! Not going to do it."

Hope you enjoyed that picture of a coffee related tile :) Cheers - Bruce

I can burn iso to dvd no problem, maybe there's something with that iso that K3b doesn't like

Can you burn other isos, for example isos you dl'd like a livecd, something not created with Brasero?

no idea how to test isos but if you install acetoneiso2 from the KDE:extra repo is it able to mount the iso?

can you manually mount the iso?

Code: Select all
su -c 'mount -o loop -t iso9660 <isofilename> <mountpoint>

Never got K3B working, so I use brasero now. A little bit cumbersome and more of a nuisance because between the rare times I need to burn I forget "brasero". I'll probably remember now, though.
