k3b and kernal problem

Mon Dec 26, 2016 2:47 pm
I use kubuntu ver 14.04.5

I have k3b installed and it does not not erase RW disks or burn successfully.

I have been told by another person on a different board that this is due to an error message produced by the kernel that prevents k3b for performing its actions.

Evidently usb burners circumvent the problem, but I prefer a software solution.

How can I ensure that I have have the latest kernel?

Can you suggest a solution, including installing specific burners I have been told that this will not eliminate the problem.

Other users must have overcome this problem - I assume

Manjaro (KDE) 17.1.7, or,
Kubuntu 16.04.4
