But the "manual" that comes with K3b doesn't mention Audio - or indeed, much else. > Some might think that WAV files don't carry ID3-1 tags, so can't carry metadata. They not only do, but when using EAC (Exact Audio Copy) - in Windows, you create or alter the tags in *.wav format - and tell it to carry ID3 to *.cda, which it does. > However, I'm about to get a new PC - and would like to do these things Linux-only. > I've been using Linux for some years, currently on PCLinuxOS (about 2.5 years) - so if this function has to be scripted in K3b, I can work around that. Thanks in advance for any advice. Regards, Dave. |

no, wav files do not inherently support tags (metainfo). however, some applications do support tagging of audio files that don't normally support tags, such as wav files.
regarding track/file names... there is no way to change the file/track names when burning an audio cd, i believe that would break the redbook standard. but that should not matter, that is why you want to tag them!

Echoes - WAV files have RIFF which you can edit via ID3 in EAC.
> I want to tag them so they don't display on a standalone player or car audio as Track-1, Track-2, so on, but show the name of the track. This can be done in EAC - we've been doing it since 2002. Apparently I can't show a screenshot of doing so here, or I would. Regards, Dave. |

You can show screenshots here, they just need to be hosted somewhere else, like Flickr, Photobucket, etc. You can then use the "Insert Image" button on the toolbar to add it.

are you sure this is correct? i've never ever seen a commerical or otherwise audio cd that has filenames other than track01, track02, etc. |

A bit of a workaround but should work:
1. Use something to convert your wav-files to flac (both formats are lossless so the audio shouldn't be degraded). 2. Tag the flac-files with, for example, EasyTagger. 3. Use K3B to add those files to an audioCD project. Note: I have no CDplayer that supports CD-Text so I can't tell if it really works. All I know for sure is that K3B lists the tag in the CD-Text column if you use tagged flac-files.

Hi! Please read my post here: viewtopic.php?f=153&t=112256&p=269968&hilit=k3b+metadata#p269968 Obviously, something is up! I've always (since about 2000-2001) used k3b to copy cds, and never had a problem with k3b transferring/importing the title/artist metadata over to the burned/completed disk. Keep me posted, pm if you wish. Take Care. Have A Healthy, Prosperous Day!
