K3b's appearance in KDE 4

Thu Feb 18, 2010 9:14 pm
Am I the only one who feels K3b's interface feels a little dated, considering Oxygen, etc?

AND, is there any work being done to change this?

Personally, I think it's fine. What part(s) exactly feel dated to you? And are you using the KDE3 version of K3B in KDE4 or the KDE4 port? The KDE4 port looks KDE4-ish to me...oxygen icons, the breadcrumb navigator, and listing the "Places" in the left-hand panel springs to mind.

Could it be streamlined and the UI updated? Certainly. But then again, if the UI is dated I'd venture a guess and say that's because it was deemed more important to get the KDE4 version to be stable before improving the UI.

there has been some new UI design ideas posted in IRC

a mockup can be seen here: http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/2671/fdfdfl.png

according to Michael Malek some work is required on the code to get a better theme support first

Ahhh, yes, I think Kubuntu is using the KDE 3 version then (it's the quick menu list in the window at the bottom I was talking about)
