K3b experiencing "write error" while flushing cache

K3b Version 1.91.0
I am running on Gnome in Ubuntu 10.04 (new install), but I have KDE Development Platform 4.4.2 (KDE 4.4.2) also...

K3b burns the entire cd or DVD and then while finishing flushing the cache it reports a "write error".... which apparently wrecks about half the data on the disk, or at least, this last time it did.

When I first started trying to burn a data dvd today, k3b wanted me to go into setup and give it group burning permissions. I pointed it at "cdrom" and it seems to have accepted that, but when I tried burning again (the last two tries) I got the above error.

Is there a fix for this or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks! o)

With such problems it makes sense to use cdrecord instead of growisofs.
Not that the recent cdrecord verrsion is 3.00
