Using:
Ubuntu 10.04 K3b 2.0 cdrecord 3.0 The error is following: Audiofiles are added in k3b (CD and/or from harddrive) and waiting for the burning. In 2-3 cases out of 10 the burning doesn't start. It says "Sending CUE sheet" and nothing happens. After some minutes k3b aborts the burning as nothing happens. It says something like: "Error does not need to be critical, try using TAO." And something about an unknown cdrecord error. Another strange thing is that I usually burn with DAO but k3b writes: "Staring burning with SAO". The old (buggy version from Ubuntu) didn't change DAO to SAO, it also failed to start burning sometimes though. (Error was something about not having enough rights to burn). I already tried using CD-R from differend vendors but nothing changed. I can't really reproduce the error. It happens from time to time. Attached is the error-logfile from k3b. (GUI one) Cheers

you could try using cdrkit instead of cdrecord but don't think that's your problem
I'd guess the msg's "write CD-Text data: error after 1073088 bytes" and "/usr/bin/cdrecord: faio_wait_on_buffer for writer timed out" are the keys suggestion upgrade, it's an easy suggestion but often resolves problems, you could test by dl'ing and running from the live cd |

Why do you recommend to try cdrkit?
Cdrkit is a dead "fork" from a 7 year old version of cdrtools (enriched with Debian specific bugs). I am sure that you would not recommend to try out a 7 year old Linux kernel today.... The problem looks like one of these problems that are caused by the non-cooperartive hald that ignores basic rules for accessing optical media and frequently interrupts the burn process. If you are writing CDs, there are two options: kill hald or tell cdrecord to write in -raw96r mode. If you are writing DVDs, there is only one option: kill hald. |
