I get a warning from K3B when I start it that growisofs is missing and I need to install a package dvd+rw-tools. Well growisofs *IS* installed. It's in /usr/bin and if I go to "Configure K3B" --> Programs and tell it to SEARCH for growisofs, it finds it just fine. Once found it stays found for that session, but if I quit K3B and start it up again, I get the warning again.

Exact text of message:
Unable to find growisofs executable
K3b uses growisofs to actually write DVDs. Without growisofs you will not be able to write DVDs. Make sure to install at least version 5.10.
Solution: Install the dvd+rw-tools package.

There is no package by that name. Any clues?

thanks

run k3bsetup
- does growisofs show under found programs?
- is burn group checked? if so are you a member

this is my k3bsetup: Image

to see what package provides it type: apt-file search /bin/growisofs

Hm, could you post the contents of your ~/.kde4/share/config/k3brc file? I'm just after the list of [External Programs]. Also, are you sure that the file has the correct permissions? If in doubt post the output of

ls -la ~/.kde4/share/config/k3brc

EDIT:
Wow! google's got hot fingers :)

Running k3bsetup shows my growisofs 7.1 in /usr/bin/growisofs
permissions same as yours (0775 root:root

burn group was not checked. I checked it and confirmed I am a member in that group.

I'm going to log out and back in to see if that change made a difference before moving on to the next suggestion :)

That seems to have taken care of the warning. Thank you. Ubuntu for 6 years and now trying to make the switch to KDE from Gnome. I wasn't aware I had to run k3bsetup. I guess I thought if K3b came preinstalled on Kubuntu that it would handle the group arrangements automagically.

I'm starting to wonder if *buntu is a representative KDE environment or if they've made changes in the Kubuntu distro.

Overall I am very impressed with KDE and, honestly, I was not impressed the last few times I took a look at it. It appears some major strides have been made in the last 2 or 3 years.

Thanks for the help with this one. I'm sure I'll have more questions. :)
