i'm willing to burn a dvd iso image using k3b 2.0.2 and my dvd burner but after a while dvd is ejected and k3b mentioning a "problem" .

How can i know what is the problem ?

it seems there's a log file at ~/.kde4/share/apps/k3b> cat lastlog.log

but it gives me no more clue than :

Any other way to know more about what this problem can be ?

It seems that CDRecord/Wodim is having some problems interacting with your Optical drive. I would suggest ensuring that no other programs (such as UDisks or HAL, or Multimedia players) are attempting to access the drive at the same time.

Another thing worth checking would be that the drive's connectors inside the computer are well seated.

how can i be sure no other programs do try to reach the drive at the same time ?

Have you tried switching to growisofs as the burning backend? I tend to have less trouble with it personally.

No i have not changed the burning backend.

I saw an error while booting this morning with driver ata_piix which seems the one used for my dvd burner , i don't know yet if the dvd, forgotten and still in the drive, was the problem or if it's a real problem

I googled the error message and found evidence that people with a similar problem reported success burning at lower speeds. Have you tried it?

it seems i have a driver problem (not found error ) :

haven't tried a different speed though, i'll try this also

i let k3b choose the speed : auto, i don't knwo which spped was used

You can chose the speed in a drop-down menu as soon as you clicked on the iso. If I remember correctly it is somewhere middle right and is aptly entitled "speed"

i told above i was going to burn using 2.4 , i was asking if the slowest speed is _needed_

Oh, sorry, misunderstanding. As stated above I have no idea - I just googled and told you that others reported success when using a slower speed... Over and out.

ok i'm not sure if it was driver ko (i'm using ata_generic now) or speed but now burning is a sucess ;=)
