Hello,

k3b can not find any optical devices.

I'm running opensuse 12.1 and the hal-daemon isn't included anymore.
The /dev/sr0 protection is 666.

What am I missing?

By chance I found a solution (or work around) to make k3b find my optical device.

I edited the file /etc/dbus-1/system.conf and switched the
-Run as special user- from messagebus to root. Now it works.

I have no idea what this is about and the consequences this modification might have. Maybe I opened a big security hole.

Any comment would be very appreciated. Thanks

OS
HAL was replaced by UDisks in openSUSE 12.1. I am not aware of any immediate security weaknesses your change causes, but it could potentially cause issues I imagine.
