As my topic says, since I update to kde 4.6 version (now I am on 4.8 since yesterday) I have again the same problem with k3b and with kde. My cd/dvd rom is not found by kde and k3b, in fact my devices notifier doesn't inform me when I put a cd/dvd inside and k3b always says me the same error:
-No optical drive found. -K3b did not find any optical device in your system. I also tried the k3b git version but there is the same problem. I have also an external usb cd/dvd rom and I have not problems with it. Is there any solution for this problem? Thank to all, and forgive me for my bad english! |

Please paste the output of "ls -la /dev/sr*". This is likely a permissions issue.

Please post the output of "solid-hardware query 'IS OpticalDrive'".
Also, does your system have either UDisks or HAL installed?

I have not response from that command! So my drive is not idenfified... I have both udisks and HAL installed. I kept HAL installed just becuause I still use guidance-power-manager but if I stop it I have the same problem!

If you run "solid-hardware list" is anything listed? You may need to ask the Slackware packagers to rebuild kdelibs to include support for UDisks/HAL.

The key line here is:
Therefore as far as Solid is concerned this is a hard disk - which matches with what UDev and the Kernel believe it to be as it is placed as /dev/hda. Next thing: post the output of "mount" please. I suspect your system also has it's main file system as /dev/hda (even though everything is pretty much seen as /dev/sd* these days) and that device is somehow being replaced with your optical drive - leading to the system being horribly confused.

Since I installed slackware on this laptop (about 3 years ago) my dvd reader is on /dev/hda. However I paste here the output of the mount action made with simple mount command and udisks
1)
2)
Another strange thing is that I can't see nothing about my dvd reader when I insert a cd/dvd with the command tail -f /var/log/messages .I see all devices when i plug in them except my dvd reader. |

In this case, I would recommend consulting the Slackware packagers, as they will need to adjust either the UDev rules they ship, or contact the UDisks developers in order to get this issue fixed.
