My question concerns what happens after I have piled up a huge index, decided it's too big and then reduced the amount of files and folders that are going to be indexed. Will Nepomuk actually realize all the data isn't necessary anymore and delete part of the index?
I'm asking because I believe I heard a while back that it wasn't able to do so yet. Is this still the case? If yes, what can I do to reduce the size of the index other than letting Nepomuk create a new one? Thanks! |

If you don't have personal data I think that the best solution is to delete the database because Virtuoso don't relinquish used space http://docs.openlinksw.com/virtuoso/backup.html. If you have personal data and you don't have space problems then a big disk space usage must not be affect database performance in a RDBS like Virtuoso. If you finally want to remove the database I have a python script to backup & restore tags, ratings and comments in a hidden file per directory.

Thank you for your reply and for your offer of the script!
Yeah, the reason why I was trying to decrease it in the first place is that I'm running low on disc space, and the index is at 4,3 GB. I don't really tag files/folders anymore (I might start again once I know for a fact that I won't lose them), but you almost can't use Kmail without tagging some emails or Korganizer without tagging tasks. I'd hate to lose those. Does your script work for those? If so, I'd gladly accept it if you'd have the grace to tell me how to use it exactly. I know how to open a terminal and run a command, but that's about it. Thanks a lot! |

No, my script only works with files and I did not use KMail since years.

Well, thanks anyway! I'll just have to do it the old-fashioned way and take notes of everything.
