I like many things about KDE, but I *do not* like having activities and operations that I do not want (like the cashew and the subject listed items) forced upon me. Such things should be disabled by default and only offered as options for anyone who might want them.

Where can I find clear, concise instructions on how to completely disable and remove anything and everything pertaining to akonadi, nepomuk, strigi, soprano, and all related content?

I have no need for any of these things, and I do not want any indexing and space-wasting and performance impeding operations or activities on my systems.

Every time I start certain apps from the command line, I get long strings of redundant error messages referencing one or more of these unwanted operations.

Please tell me what is causing all of these error messages and how can I stop them?

Here is just one example:

$ gwenview test.jpg
"/usr/bin/gwenview(25617)" Soprano: "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown - The name org.kde.nepomuk.services.nepomukstorage was not provided by any .service files"

4.8.3 and I've done all the latest updates (group 1 and 2)
and I see some others at 4.9.x
so since I've done all the updates, why am I still at 4.8.3 instead of 4.9.x ?

Good question. These types of errors were applicable in 4.8.3 / upgrading, but not later. Something has got messed up somewhere. You definitely need to speak to your distro team about it. ..........Or you could just do a clean install of Mint 14 KDE and update whatever there is to update straight away and start over.

For me kde is a little bit chatty, I can inactivate some of the message from program started in the terminal if I inactivate debugmessage in the kdedebugdialog. But some message don't dispaer. My solution is sending the debugmessage to null as
Code: Select all
alias gwenview='gwenview 2>/dev/null'
. I use that on application I usually start from the terminal (mostly Kate).
