Original thread viewtopic.php?f=15&t=98468 was closed because
"This thread has ultimately become a large collection of criticisms...."

Right.
I like to find out, how to remove those extremely annoying and rather useless parts of KDE permanently from my system.
BTW, I had to give up on kmail long time ago, when it first became dependent of this stuff. RIP Kmail. It was fun while it lasted :'(

Strigi can be disabled by simply disabling File Indexing in System Settings > Desktop Search. Nepomuk can be inhibited in a largely similar manner, through the same area.

As Akonadi is autostarted when it's services are required the only way to disable it is to not use any applications which use it / disable their Akonadi dependent functionality.

To be honest, I have drawn the conclusion that KDE4 just isn't for me. My answer to your question of removing what you call "those extremely annoying and rather useless parts of KDE" would be, therefore, simply to quit using KDE--as I have done.

Mind you, I do not mean to claim that KDE4 is "bad" in any way; in fact, I'm pretty sure that the KDE team succeeds in putting together a great piece of software... for its target audience. It just so happens that I am not a member of said target audience. Rather than getting all worked up about how KDE doesn't work for me, and bugging its supporters and developers with all kinds of criticisms (when the only real "fault" of the product is, that it simply doesn't fit me), I prefer to avoid wasting everyone's time, and I go and look elsewhere. After all, I am free to do so, aren't I?

Anyway--no hard feelings, at least not on my side. Even if KDE isn't for me, I do wish the KDE team all the best, and I hope they can keep up the good work--for those to whom the product is targeted.
