I'm on Kubuntu 14:10 with Plasma and KDE 5.2 and Dolphin 4.14.2.
Semantic Desktop, first with Nepomuk and now with Baloo, is something that has always fascinated me, but unfortunately it never worked very well for various reasons. Now, thanks to Baloo and Vishesh Handa who took over the development, it seems that things are better, and that the future is even better. Now I'm trying to do some small experiments, because I wanted to also write an article on a blog on the subject. Practically in Plasma 5.2 I finally managed to create a folder in Dolphin semantic search with a custom tag, which seems very useful indeed in Dolphin as you know are the default folders as semantic (Video, Images, Audio, Documents) which are very useful and appreciated by users. Well, I found that now you can for example add a new folder for custom tag, for example with
In order to have a wild search for movies only, and not for other types of video. but now I want to make an example of some photos with tags and their research: Let's say that I have on my hard drive 10 photos, of these, three have tags Sara other 3 have tags Marco, the four remaining tags have both Mark and Sara. So I can do in Dolphin Research with tags: / Marco that will give me all the photos tagged marco, so in this case a total of 7 photos.But now if I wanted to narrow the search and I were to have only the pictures in which there are Mark and Sara together can do the search with
This is where I have gone so far, and of course you can still change, I wanted to know if I'm missing something if there are other possibilities or other search options. Also wanted to ask especially if future research could still restrict date and place. For example if I wanted to try those ten photos in the photo of Mark and Sara together, made in 2013 Roma.Why the other 4 in which they together were made in 2009 and were made in Paris, but I want to search only in 2013 Marco And Sara, Rome Also last I wanted to ask, if in the future applications of Plasma 5 will be created around the concept of Semantic Desktop, because this could be a real killer for future Plasma and all its applications, so if there is a project together behind semantic desktop, so that all in kde go in this direction, and whether it would be nice to have this in addition to a few, but very good developers now, a team specifically for the semantic desktop, as there are already teams kdepim, kde telepathy and other, large projects big teams Sorry for the long post and confused, but this is written with google translate, I hope you understand |

Hi lazyIt. First of all, thank you very much for the kind words. I really appreciate it.
The tags kioslave is quite basic and does not allow complex queries. However we do have a `baloosearch` kioslave which will allow you to do what you want. Here are some examples - baloosearch://?query=tag:Marco OR tag:Sara baloosearch://?query=tag:Marco tag:Sara baloosearch://?query=(tag:Marco AND tag:Sara) OR (tag:Marco AND tag:John) baloosearch://?query=type:Image AND tag:Marco Have a look at - http://vhanda.in/blog/2014/10/search-fo ... lasma-5-1/ In order to search for time, you can use the `modified` property. There isn't much documentation regarding the properties that are exposed. It would be great if you (or someone else) could help write some. Other additional properties you can use - * imageDateTime * photoGpsLatitude * photoGpsLongitude .. There are many more. |

vHanda thanks to you for the answer, I tried to use the ioslave baloosearch as you suggested, I did not know that there was in fact already in the ioslave dolphin, although I had already read your blog and played with dolphin these days XD I used only ioslave tags: / as I wrote above, however I do not know if I'm wrong but something here with Plasma and Dolphin 5.2 4.14.2 does not work, that is, when tags work baloosearch not by anything;
Anyway I like the direction in which things are going, and I hope that in the future even more complex searches are possible, because it would be nice to just the right one? Also I wish everything worked easily for all without having to write code every time strings that look, but with help of people likecolomar for usability and VDG for UI hope that this could happen, I can not wait that arrive new programs Semantic Centric: D (Bangarang (i loved him in the past), Jungle, Koko,), even if you'd like to know news ... However in the past with Nepomuk Dolphin seems to me that he had a UI research a little more complex already https://trueg.files.wordpress.com/2010/ ... -panel.png With regard to the various possibilities and properties you're right, there is not much documentation on these things and even on kioslave in general, gives me the idea that they are very useful tools but little known and perhaps bad implemented, up to kde 4 (but here I will not criticize anyone, just thinking out loud). But as I said, it seems to me that you are in the right direction, so thanks again, unfortunately I do not think I'm quite prepared to write documentation, but if I can, after a little bit more depth, I can do some article on blogs to bring to the attention of persons concerned, the news that gradually come around baloo and semantic desktop. |

Yes. Dolphin is still in Qt4. Until the KF5 version is shipped (another 3 months). It will not get access to these features. You can still use - * kioclient5 ls 'baloosearch://?query=word' * Use the Folder widget in Plasma desktop
Is some feature currently missing with the new baloosearch slave?
Right. We do need better UIs to expose these features. |

Last thing, and then I swear I do not bother you more for a long time: D
I was thinking if effettiDolphin was the right tool for this, that is, I mean, it's great and Dolphin File Manager is the best in the world, but I imagine that its code has become hellish time Perhaps it would be nice to have a program with a specific UI to make semantic searches, which only serves to try tags with various filters, and then open the files found with the right application, and maybe even a plasmoid as Milou but with the filters. However as it is now thorough search in Dolphin, there are filters, evaluation (the stars), date (time) and type of files (documents, videos, etc.), but the default in this way is only files with the the name of research, and not instead of the tag, it seems to me that there is no filter tag or set the default search by tag. Only my many cents. Thanks for your attention |

Possibly. The main problem we have is of man-power. We need someone to take the lead and actually implement this stuff. |

Hey lazyit, you might want to look into tagsistant[1], tmsu[2] or dantalian[3] for your semantic tagging needs. These are semantic filesystems.
