Slow writing extended attributes (e.g. a rating) via Dolphin

When I rate a file in Dolphin (Plasma 4) it takes a few seconds for the change to take place. This happens regardless of whether it's off my SSD or mechanical drive. My filesystem is EXT4. Any reason for this?
