Update Baloo

Sun Oct 11, 2015 8:30 pm
Hello,
I'm on Mint KDE 17.1 (based on Kubuntu 14.04 LTS).
I have installed "baloo4" and "baloo-utils" packages. I had neither by default. The version provided in Mint's repository is 4.14.2.

Now I'd like to update Baloo to the latest version (or to the latest supporting Plasma 4). Is there a PPA I can use to update Baloo?

Thanks.

question being distro specific would be best asked elsewhere

doubtful there's an official newer version of KDE for that LTS so probably need to either compile KDE from source or upgrade Mint, not sure how easy (if possible) to just compile Baloo

is there a particular reason you need the latest version?

I'd like to checkout the latest Baloo, because I have some problems with mine.

The main issue is that with Baloo acivated, I have few entries in popup balloons: for mp3 files I only have type and size. There's no way I can add music-specific entries, such as artist, album, genre.
The same happens for video files.

I can workaround this by diabling Baloo with "balooctl disable", but then I have no real-time indexing, I guess.

If I can solve this problem, I'm fine with my "old" release of Baloo.

Thanks.

suggest you post a new thread with specifics to your issues

I don't actually use indexing so I'm no help here

a bit confused, things you should articulate in a new thread:
- the balloons do not show what tags are there or do they?
- you want to add tags but can't?
- when you disable indexing you can add tags?

fyi -for tag editing Amarok works well

make sure you have the following installed:
libbaloofiles4
libbaloowidgets4
libbalooxapian4

then reinstall all baloo related packages
