Hi!
Reading some other threads I learned that the Nepomuk/Strigi system is not complete yet (KDE 4.2.2). My question is what is possible with the current implementation. I installed nepomuk, strigi, soprano2 and tried using it for a search in dolphin with nepomuksearch://something . The only thing I get is the nepomuk icon and the info that nothing has been found. I can do searches with strigiclient, but that program seems to be quite limited. I can tag and rate stuff in dolphin, but can I also search this information? What is also strange is that strigiclient shows me that it is indexing right now, but in the nepomuk panel in systemsettings I read that strigi is not running ... Is this the expected behaviour with the current version of nepomuk, or does it rather look like a setup mistake on my system (Kubuntu 9.04)? Best, Zsaja |

Well, I had the same problem but I could resolve it. I have put some details here: http://ossz.blogspot.com/2009/05/nepomu ... ystry.html
Please note that I have described it for Fedora-11 (which I use). However, it will help you understanding the issue and fixing it. Take a look. Good luck! -shekharc |

Here, searching in KRunner (Alt+F2) works fine. nepomukserch:// currently doesn't work (protocol died unexpectedly). This was the first time I tried to search within Dolphin, since I usually use KRunner.

Enable strigi is not a good idea because it has bugs indexing so query results are not acurate. You can use but you can't trust results.
Another problem is that there is no documentation anywhere that explains how to perform querys so, currently, nepomuk+strigi is like and autist, has a lot information, it's capable of doing marvellous things but it can't comunicate. Frustrating . I know the next keywords: tag (or hasTag), rating (0 to 10), artist, title, album, fileExtension, year, genre, trackNumber, size, url and discNumber. There is mimeType but I can't it works. The syntax I have been able to deduce is the following: [logop expr]... logop: and | or expr: text expr: op: : | = | > | = Examples: change - search for files with word "change" in it's name, content or comment. artist:"silvio rodríguez" and year:2007 - search for all 2007 music from "Silvio Rodríguez". album:"blue" or album:"black" - search music from albums with words "blue" or "black" in title. genre:Jpop and year>=2005 - all Jpop music since 2005. hasTag:"Ava Gardner" - all files with tag "Ava Gardner". hasTag:"Ava Gardner" and rating>=9 - masterpieces with "Ava Gardner" But, Please note that the results are far from reliable... or not, without documentation is hard to know.

The Dolphin search UI should be capable of constructing the queries now for all types you may require.
