Nepomuk doesn't seem to be working

Mon Dec 14, 2009 6:22 pm
Hi all!

First off, I am running Arch Linux with KDEmod. I have Nepomuk and Strigi indexing enabled as far as I can figure out. However, I can't seem to be able to find anything with Nepomuk.

Here is a screenshot which shows a folder included in the indexed folders and that it exists at the time of the search and even 2 weeks prior to the search. However, a search for the folder brings up nothing in Nepomuk... What am I doing wrong?

Nepomuk is working, but searching using the KIO slave is not as easy as it sounds. A GUI for it exists in Dolphin in 4.4, however in the mean time you can use KRunner to perform the searches you are looking for.

Thank you for the reply.

I've been reading up on Nepomuk and Strigi and understand that we are the beginnings of the semantic desktop. I just thought that with the search function available in Dolphin, it would work as expected.

Hi,

i'm using KDE Development Platform: 4.3.85 (KDE 4.3.85 (KDE 4.4 Beta2)) "release 3"
in opensuse 11.2.

i have allowed nepomuk and strigi in the desktop options but still with an error message :
nepomuk can't access redland database backend

i added redland already (i) :

i | libredland0 | a set of free software libraries that provide support for the Resource Description Framework (RDF) |

i | redland | a set of free software libraries that provide support for the Resource Description Framework (RDF)

i | soprano-backend-redland | C++/Qt based interface library for RDF

How can i improve this ?

Thanks ;)

Possibly due to an outdated Sycoca. Try running "kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental"

Hello,
i did so but i still have a nepomuk is not running error message :

"Nepomuk Indexing Agents Have Been Disabled
The Nepomuk service is not available or fully operational and attempts to rectify this have failed. Therefore indexing of all data stored in the Akonadi PIM service has been disabled, which will severely limit the capabilities of any application using this data.

The following problems were detected:
Nepomuk is not running."

and also "nepomuk was not able to find the configured database backend 'redland'. Existing data can thus not be accessed ..."

by the way while launching kontact it gives the following errors :
mysql server journal with errors
nepomuk service not registered at D Bus
no ressource agents have been found

This message indicates that your system installation may have issues, or Nepomuk's database is corrupt. After checking your installation, please move $(kde4-config --localprefix)/share/apps/nepomuk and then logout and back in again.

Code: Select all
"nepomuk was not able to find the configured database backend 'redland'. Existing data can thus not be accessed ..."

Be aware that data stored in Nepomuk, such as Basket notes, tags and file ratings in Gwenview / Dolphin will be lost as a result of this procedure. Please take backups of this information if it is needed.

What do you mean by "remove $(kde4-config --localprefix)/share/apps/nepomuk"
What shall i remove ? is this /home/fabrice/.kde4/share/apps/nepomuk/ ?

Anyway after removing nepomuk at the above path i still have an error message about redland database.

how do i activate the strigi service ? (i have a "strgi service not running" message in desktop settings)

Try force reinstalling the soprano-backend-redland package after refreshing all Repositories in YaST.
If a soprano-backend-virtuoso package is available, definitely install it.

The path to remove is correct, and strigi cannot be started until a functional backend is available for Nepomuk.

Great release, but the "Recent Notifications" display never goes away...it makes anything near that corner unusable.
Yes I know bug releases in whatever but that requires making an account.

I cannot reproduce the notifications area bug you are describing.

But still these messages :

"Nepomuk Indexing Agents Have Been Disabled
The Nepomuk service is not available or fully operational and attempts to rectify this have failed. Therefore indexing of all data stored in the Akonadi PIM service has been disabled, which will severely limit the capabilities of any application using this data.

if i go to the settings and reactivate strigi it's gonna work, but still same error message next boot

and also "nepomuk was not able to find the configured database backend 'redland'. Existing data can thus not be accessed ..."

shell i remove all redland* packages and reinstall them ?

Thanks ;)

Please install soprano-backend-virtuoso if present. Afterwards, check that your repositories are up to date, and the latest available versions of all software is installed from the KDE 4.4 repository.

Once done, log out and back in again, then run "kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental" if you get that message again, and log out and back in again.
