I'm running gentoo linux with kde 4.4, strigi 0.7.1
While building the database which as of now indexes 37,394 files in 1.1 GiB the nepomukservices process took 1.8 gb of memory. I also notice a whack of errors like this in /var/log/ messages: Feb 16 14:33:10 gandalf kernel: nepomukservices[7674]: segfault at 8 ip 00000038c12fecfe sp 00007faa3a0c3230 error 4 in libQtCore.so.4.6.1[38c1200000+273000] Using dolphin to search does work but each search takes many minutes to complete - it seems very inefficient Worse yet (to me) it is returning substrings of longer words in the results. I mean this: if I search for the name Savan I am getting files with the word savannah returned. That would be funny but I am not laughing. So how do I get this to work properly (whole word search, not just strings)? Any advice would be appreciated. TIA |

Do you have Virtuoso installed?

yes - virtuoso-server / virtuoso-odbc 6.1.0 I have to say that it worked better in 4.3.5 without virtuoso but perhaps eventually things will be worked out |

OK - I told strigi to index a small subset of the files
I would actually like indexed (isn't the whole point of desktop search to help when you have so many files it's hard to keep track of where everything is? - but that's another issue) timeline folders remain empty - maybe it takes a while for them to populate??? As a humorous (?) addition: strigi is returning results that do not include the search term, for example, images where the search term does not occur in the name of the image file nor in any tag. It's consistent though Oops - tried a search in krunner and it crashed. Restarted to notice that the image that dolphin incorrectly returns is not returned in krunner results. On the other hand, krunner results are missing lots of files that do contain the search term. One might be tempted to think that at the moment all this nepomuk stuff is ... what shall we say ... less than perfect. |

It appears that the search query generation in both KRunner and Dolphin contains bugs at this time. Can you please file a bug report about both?
Timeline folders should be filled up, however they may take a few moments to do so....

thanks and yes - they did start to fill up and appear in dolphin. But I have had to turn off indexing because of its constant reindexing and insane memory use. I'll try again after the next update ... |
