after being away from my computer all yesterday, I sat down today
to find that nepomuk and dbus-daemon were both taking more than a gb of memory I've heard there is a bad memory leak - is there any progress on this coming up? thanks for any word 'cause this is annoying and lame |

Which version of KDE are you using? Closing all PIM applications, then reopening them if needed should resolve the issues.

I'm using kde 4.4.1 (on gentoo linux). It's true that closing all PIM apps + all nepomuk apps (nepomuk and strigi) and restarting helps - that's the part that's lame |

Please make sure you are using the newest version of the Akonadi Server that is available. In addition please make sure that your system is fully upgraded to 4.4.1, especially in areas involving Soprano and Nepomuk.
If the Akonadi server wasn't upgraded as part of your upgrade to KDE 4.4.1, please file a bug with your distribution.

OK - I have akonadi-server 1.3.1. Is there a newer one? If there
is, gentoo doesn't have it yet available. |

happened again today - came home to find nepomukservices at
3.2 gb and dbus-daemon at around 1.5 gb !!! I did login remotely and use X-forward to run kmail; otherwise the computer was idle all day. |

You didn't happen to be logged into the system when you X forwarded to run KMail? In particular, were Nepomuk, Akonadi or KMail already running?

I was logged in on the remote computer and 1. kmail was NOT running on remote computer 2. Nepomuk and Akonadi WERE both running on remote computer Is that a problem? Normally, I turn off kmail but remain logged in and leave my house; get to my work site; log in to my home computer and run kmail. Since the akonadi integration kmail has been very slow over ssh, plus there is the memory problem. I've noticed that kmail frequently fails to start unless I stop/kill akonadi first and then restart kmail. The ability to run individual programs remotely over ssh is EXTREMELY useful - it's a shame this seems to be getting less reliable and less workable. FWIW, I notice that yesterday the kernel started shutting down nepomuk and akonadi stuff:
(there are many more such messages) |

Do you have Strigi enabled?
Note that it isn't really KMail but Nepomuk and Akonadi which need to be stopped.. When closing KMail to begin work on the other system, run the following commands:

Strigi is not enabled on the laptop at work but is enabled on the home desktop. I will try your advice. Thanks again. |
