Nepomuk process taking 100% CPU

Tue May 04, 2010 7:58 am
I'm not sure if this is related to "Semantic Desktop", but this forum has the same symbol of the "Desktop Search" process that involves the processes below... Sorry if this post is in the wrong forum.

I wanted to log in on my PC this morning, when I discovered it was using 100% CPU.

I could hardly login, it responded so slowly to me due to being so busy.

It was busy with these processes:

1879 ##### 39 19 319m 214m 5872 S 20 6.5 158:09.87 nepomukservices
1752 ##### 20 0 127m 111m 3584 S 47 3.4 60:06.05 virtuoso-t

I killed those processes and it went fine again.

I upgraded to KDE 4.4 yesterday. I've never had this problem in KDE 4.3.

Is this supposed to happen?

Whatever Nepomuk does, I don't need it hard enough to be worth making my CPU run at 100% all night long!

How can I disable this, and also, how can I ever thrust KDE again now that it won't waste my electricity and CPU lifetime like this anymore after future updates?

Strigi is probably indexing your files and it may cause high CPU utilization. You can try turn it off completely or temporarily in System Settings->Advanced->Desktop Search.

Hope it helps.

It's possible that the system was (if you used virtuoso before upgrading to 4.4) busy converting the nepomuk database to a new format. If that's the case it should only happen once.
