Re-installed laptop using:
Kubuntu 10.04 and KDE 4.5.1 Everything updated. I added back some of the files from the previous /home folder to restore PIM data. I am using Akonadi tray to check configuration and there is an error message there: Nepomuk search service not registered at D-Bus In system settings, I have Nepomuk enabled. I thought Strigi was as well, but checking now, it is not, so I turned it back on. I guess this could be a problem with some of the files from the backup? Before the re-install and backup, the system was up to date so there should not be any version differences, but there could be other reasons why I get problems. I am really trying to clean up all things that are not running as they should. ![]() Let me know if any other info is needed.

Does "nepomukserver" start successfully?
You may wish to try running it from Konsole to see what error messages it outputs. To shutdown an existing instance:
Then run "nepomukserver &" to start it in your terminal. Also, make sure "soprano-backend-virtuoso" and "soprano-backend-redland" are installed.

Did a search for soprano-backend-virtuoso and soprano-backend-redland and could not find either packages. What repository should it be in? Or is there another package that pull this as dependencies?
Here is the output of starting Nepomuk in a terminal: http://pastebin.ca/1942070 Thank you for helping me with this. I really want to have things running smooth

Judging from the output, both Redland and Virtuoso are present.
The problem is that your Nepomuk database is corrupt ![]() Unfortunately there isn't much you can do other than moving the Nepomuk database at ~/.kde4/share/apps/nepomuk elsewhere. Then try to start Nepomuk.

Thank you. That took care of it. Strigi is indexing and I'll leave it running over night and hope it has finished by the morning
![]() How can I make sure it is doing it's job as fast as possible? I am already using MySQL for Akonadi. Should I do something for Nepomuk/Strigi as well? And how do I know it is using the best backend?

Virtuoso is the best backend available at the moment, so not much you can do other than ensure other applications avoid using disk as much as possible.
