Because my nepomuk isn't working, I can't use the KDE environment. It starts up my KDE session and then kills it when nepomuk fails logging me out. Here are the errors from when I use "startkde":

Moved to Workspace since it seems more appropriate.

I don't know what causes the error, but here's a wild guess - do you have D-Bus running?

What version of opensuse are you using and what KDE-related repos (if any) do you have enabled? Are you sure all of the KDE-related packages are from the same repo?

It is extremely unlikely that Nepomuk failing to start causing KDE to fail to start.

Judging by the error messages printed by applications, X is crashing, which causes the subsequent connection failures to D-Bus.

I suggest disabling Desktop Effects, by removing ~/.kde4/share/config/kwinrc

I moved kwinrc out of the way and it had no effect. It has to be KDE killing the desktop since I can run twm and Gnome without ill effect. It is only running startkde that is causing the problem. Here are the messages after moving kwinrc:
