Hello,
I'm experimenting Nepomuk data backup-restore in self compiled KDE 4.7.2. The main reason for doing backups, as far as I understood, is to be able to restore user defined data like tags, ratings and comments, in case the Virtuoso database is corrupted. A manual backup is performed through the UI, it creates a file < 1 MB from a Nepomuk Virtuoso repository about 90 MB in size. This backup includes some custom tags defined from Dolphin's information panel. Then I close the KDE session, and in a terminal, I delete the ~/.kde/share/apps/nepomuk repository. After firing a KDE session again, the whole Nepomuk system starts normally and creates another repository. Of course, there are no user defined tags any more. I try to restore the custom tags from the backup file, using KDE UI, and there nothing happens. A dialog box prompts for the backup file, a new window shows what one may expect to be a progress bar and nothing happens, even after 15 mins. No custom tags are created. Is it a known behaviour in 4.7.2 ? Does in work for any one in any KDE version ? Could there be some compeling libraries I could have missed during compilation ? Can we expect a backup to restore a fresly built repository ? I suppose it should be why we backup user defined data ! Thank you for any input. |
