I love Nepomuk, but don't use it. Is there a workaround?

I totally understand. Much to do and limited resources. It's more something I'd love to see on a roadmap for the future than a "must have NOW". I've been waiting 3 years so far... I can wait another couple. :) I do wonder though if a Kickstarter campaign might get Sebastian T re-employed on Nepomuk full time for long enough to make this happen though...

You must contact with him.

This seems like a nice question for the Nepomuk FAQ, anyone who wants to summarize the answer here? :)

I'll give that a try.

Neposidekick it's working? Where is the location where service menus will be copied in Ubuntu?

Some feedback would be useful :).

I don't follow you. What kind of question and what answer? Backup/restore it's not working :?

Q. How do I make sure Nepomuk meta-data are preserved when moving files?

A. - Using Dolphin or Konqueror to move your files and metadata must be preserved. If the destination folder is a non indexed folder all metadata collected automatically will be lost.

Q. How do I backup Nepomuk data when for example doing a reinstall?

A. - Nepomuk backup/restore system is broken since KDE 4.7.x and it's not fixed yet (4.8.0), so you need to backup your Nepomuk database manually using a method similar to backup your KDE configuration. This is, step by step, the description of one possibly method to backup your data:
  • Backup:
    • 1) Stop Nepomuk using the Control Panel.
    • 2) Locate where database is stored: echo `kde4-config --localprefix`share/apps/nepomuk/
    • 3) Make a complete copy of the folder "repository" to a safe place.
  • Restore:
    • 1) Stop Nepomuk using the Control Panel.
    • 2) Locate where database is stored: echo `kde4-config --localprefix`share/apps/nepomuk/
    • 3) Remove, or rename, the folder "repository".
    • 4) Restore the copy of the "repository" folder from the safe place.
    • 5) Start Nepomuk using the Control Panel.

If you only need to backup/restore your tags, descriptions and ratings there is an utility called Neposidekick that do this job storing this information in a hidden file per folder.

Something like this?. My English is bad so this text must be revised.

Excellent, thanks! I'll contact einar so that we can revise and add it to the FAQ.
