One oft-overlooked feature of Photoshop is the ability to use the eyedropper on things that aren't open in Photoshop, such as a webpage or other program. An example below:

(That example was done for someone who needed to get the background of a specific webpage)

I personally found this so super helpful in streamlining my workflow, as it meant I didn't have to either take a screenshot or download and open images that I need for color refs. IDK if it's just a quirk in how PS and Windows handle the click-drag-release actions needed to do this, though. It's been around since at least PS6.0

Good news! It's possible to do this:

1. Double click the active colour swatch to get a window with a colour picker, number input and a basic palette.
2. Next to 'add to palette' there's an eyedropper tool. Click this to activate it.
3. Now you can click anywhere on the screen to colour pick!

Neat! I didn't know that, maybe if they made the toolbar color picker act like that it would make it soo much easier to find and use.
