Temporary Zoom Key

Mon Oct 26, 2015 11:51 pm
Hi, I am currently working on details in my drawing and a temporary zoom tool would come in handy.

How does it work:

When zoomed in on detail work hit and hold a shortcut key to zoom out to the whole picture to see if the changed detail fits in. Release the shortcut key and it zooms in again, to the area you were working on before.

Benefits:

1. It gives you a bigger picture than the Overview Docker. In the Overview I am not able to see the details I changed.
2. It takes less screen space than a second zoomed out window.
3. It's comfortable, more functional and way faster than hitting "2" to zoom out, and then manualy zoom in again (for example with the wacom pen button).

At the moment I would use it once every minute. Also I have minor coding experience and I think it could be coded relatively fast.
Any thoughts? Is there demand?

It would be nice to just add the "Hold" behaviour for the existing 1,2 & 3 keys. So we press and hold any of them for >~0.5sec then release and that's it.
In fact, the hold behaviour as an option would be nice for many other shortcuts, for instance, I would love to have the option for the color selector, mirroring, etc... Imho, it would be a nice non intrusive usability improvement.
