Change in the Layer View

Fri Jan 01, 2016 6:00 pm
I hope I don't sound too picky with this topic, but one thing that does throw me off with the software is the way the layers look. They're a bit hard to work with since they're very tiny. It gets hard to tell which is which at a quick glance. I see that there are three layer views - Detailed, Minimal, and Thumbnail, but then the Thumbnail view is way too large and doesn't have the other options like lock alpha. If it's possible, is there a way to have the layers set up similarly to programs like Gimp, Sketchbook Pro, or Firealpaca? The thumbnails are the right size, each layer is properly spaced apart, and it's easier to locate layers in groups at a quick glance. Again, I hope I don't sound too picky. This is just one of my drawing preferences.

Re: Change in the Layer View  Topic is solved

You aren't the first person that has ideas on the layers docker improvement. We are making some changes to the way it looks and functions. Not sure when the work will be done though.

We aren't going the exact direction of GIMP as there is no way to see what state a layer is in at a glance. When you work with a lot of layers, it is good to see the state they are all in at a glance. In GIMP, you have to have a layer selected to see what properties are enabled like layer locking or transparency locking.

We are actually going to eliminate the three different views in the layers docker (minimal, detailed, and thumbnail). We are going to have an option to adjust the thumbnail size, as that is the main difference between all of the views anyway.

The spacing should be better in the new design as well so everything doesn't look crammed together. We are moving the eye icon to the left like other applications, so that will be similar. There are also other features being added like color coding for a layer. You will see in the future. We can always make further tweaks as we get ideas. Best to wait until the new design is out before having more feedback on it.
