Changing Favorites for all users

Wed Mar 07, 2012 2:49 pm
How can I change the Favorites menu for all users so I can make Krusader the
favorite file manager for everyone without them having to do it them selves

We are having so many problems with Dolphin with NFS shares !!!

I will check the bug lists later and see if everyone else has
had similar problems :-(

It would be interesting to find out what these issues are, as they should not be occurring. Can you please elaborate on what they are?

As for making Krusader the default, you need to alter the global file associations for the file type "inode/directory".

I'm not sure how to do this on a global level, but locally the following command allows one to determine if the File Manager default has been overridden.
Code: Select all
kreadconfig --file /home/ben/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list --group "Added Associations" --key inode/directory

That key can be written to as well, using kwriteconfig.

Dolphin seems to have real trouble with NFS4/3 shares
( KDE Bug 292934 and there are some related ones that you
can get to from that bug )... or I could be doing something wrong !

Basically I have users home directories on an nfs4 server ( it used to be nfs3 which doesn't seem to make any difference ) then I have two other directories /shared/everyone and /shared/students. The home directory
works as expected. If however I try and drag files from the home directory to either of the other ones using dolphin sometimes users get 'access denied'
Doing the same thing in Krusader or in a terminal works fine everytime.

I really don't want to do this but I have searched high and low for a
solution. ( This is openSuse 12.1 with kde 4.8.1 )

If you have any ideas I would be so happy

Can you please try testing using Konqueror? It uses pretty much the same infrastructure, so it will be interesting to see if it is affected as well.

Okay, there probably is no workaround for the NFS issue. As for changing the default, please see http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Specifi ... tions-spec

The appropriate class for File Managers is "inode/directory".
