Change cursors at login screen

Tue Apr 03, 2012 7:14 pm
I changed the default cursor theme so that at the login screen I get the same cursors as after login.
So I created /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme & inside that I put
Code: Select all
[Icon Theme]
Name=Oxygen_White
Comment = Default icon theme
Inherits=Oxygen_White

And it was working fine until (I think) I updated to 4.8.1. The login screen cursors are back to the old ones.
So what actually happened?

most likely, the file /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme has been replaced by package update.
just edit it again and check what's inside.

No, I checked that. The file is still present.

If you have changed it, you may need to restart KDM for it to kick in.

Well, the problem wasn't KDE related.

Some package had installed the Adwaita cursor theme in
/usr/share/cursors/xorg-x11
along with a default folder in it symlinked to Adwaita. So Xcursor was looking for cursors in
/usr/share/cursors/xorg-x11/default
before looking in
/usr/share/icons/default
.
